How do you shape your Eyebrows correctly to make your eyes POP!
Eyebrows are the frame of your eyes so whether you are shaping your eyebrows yourself or you are wanting Permanent makeup there are certain rules and guidelines that most brow artists, waxers, or threading professionals will likely use. As a Professional makeup artist of 19+ years I have always used most of these rules. I also learned new ones when I learned how to do Permanent makeup and Nano Brows. I enjoy helping women feel more confident and having well shaped brows. There are a lot of people that because of age, hormones, or previously tweezing too much of their brow hairs off don't have a full brow and could benefit from filling in and shaping their brows; either permanently with Nano brows or with makeup every day.
The easiest way is to look in the mirror grab a makeup brush or pencil and hold the brush angled up the side of your nose by pushing your nostril in and up the line of your nose. that is where your brows should start. Keeping the brush at the corner of your nose make it diagonal from the corner of your nose to the outer edge of your iris and your pupil. the end of the tail of your brow is diagonal from the corner of your nose to the corner of your eye. Your tail of your brow should also not go lower than the bottom side of the front of your brow.
There are some things that are exceptions or that you have to pay attention especially when you are doing permanent makeup to make them look symmetrical. If you have any scars or been in any accidents that affected how your skin and brow sits you want to take that into consideration. Some people also have one side of their face that's a bit flat, and one curved back faster because either as a baby or long-term sleeping on one side of the face all the time. When that is true sometimes to make them look more even you can make one slightly flatter and one side more curved on the underside of the arch. This is definitely a more ADVANCED brow shaping technique so when just filling in brows don't try to do this it's not worth it LOL. I definitely have used this technique to help make brows look more even when I marked and saw that even though the measurements were even to the naked eye it didn't look even.
When you choose a color for filling in brows with makeup you want the brows to be same color one shade lighter or darker than your chosen hair color. Whether you are using a brow pencil or pen, brush or pomade, etc You want to use short feathery strokes in the direction your hair grows so it looks more natural. If you struggle with brow color staying on you want to do a pencil or pen than use a powder over it. This will help make it last longer for the day.
When choosing a color for permanent makeup for brows whether Nano Brows, Ombre, Combo, etc you want the end result when it's healed to be same shade or one shade lighter or darker usually. Sometimes as a blonde you want to be 2-3 shades darker so you can see but for most other hair colors that is the rule. So, in order to find that color the PMU artist needs to choose a color slightly darker and warmer because they heal lighter and cooler. When they heal than you can tweak the ink color darker warmer or keep it the same depending on if you need to change anything about how it healed.

Did you know that usually 70% of women are walking around with the wrong shade of foundation? Either you are wearing the wrong undertone, the wrong depth level so too dark or too light, or you are still wearing a shade that matched in winter but not in summer or vice versa. Back in the "Old days" they (meaning beauty professionals) used to tell us to match your foundation with the back of your wrist. I always thought this was strange, but when I learned more about matching, I realized how wrong this was. Have you ever looked at someone's wrist and said wow that perfectly matches your face? NO! It gets way less sun than your face and it can have a lot more visible veins which can make it look more blue or green, and just in general not a good option.
So where should you match your foundation? You need to be in natural light so if you are in a mall or store go to the windows to do it or after your foundation swatch than walk outdoors. Don't ever just buy it after seeing it under the fluorescent lighting. Where should you put the foundation? The best place to check is your jaw and neck or cheek to jaw area depending on if you have any hyperpigmentation. When I was teaching a class to a roomful of women I tried to say cheek, neck, and jaw and it ended up coming out, "You need to check your jeck!" so I use that phrase all the time to help women remember to check your check and you should check quarterly.
Alot of women change between 2-3 shades of foundation through the year sometimes more. Don't try to use up one before you move on. Either mix a shade to use it up or wait for a 3-6 month till you are that color again. You usually will be that color again and foundation lasts more than that long :) You never want to look like a bobble head walking around because it looks like an orange or too dark mask on. You also don't want to have ghost face and be too light. You want to remember if you have spray tanned, or had sun damage on your neck you might not be able to match it perfectly, because that skin is not what normal skin usually looks like but you can get as close as possible so you look like you match and you can add contour, bronzer etc. to warm it up or to even out the redness on your neck. If you match your foundation to your neck and chest area you won't have to drag your foundation to match and blend it in. You should be able to stop near the jaw and be totally fine when you match it correctly.
Remember when you choose a shade of foundation it should match your cheek, jaw, neck and even chest area. Always remember to check in natural light. Swatch 2-3 shades on your jaw area blend a bit but don't rub to much in your skin or you will have more colors that look like they match when they don't. Even take a pic or selfie and see which one disappears than you will know that is most likely the correct color. Once you have matched your foundation if you use powder and its color you need to do the same thing and with a lot of powders they can oxidize and make the foundation appear darker. So be very aware of everything that works with your foundation so you can make the best choice.

How do you check your undertone for your foundation?
As a Professional Makeup Artist of 18+ years I was trained by International Makeup Artist Robert Jones, and one of the best tips he taught me was to ask these questions.
Do you tan easy?
Do you burn than tan?
Do you only burn and never tan?
If you answer yes to number 1 that means you are an olive, warm or more yellow undertone. I know that might make things more confusing but wait for me to explain and hopefully it will make sense.
If you answered yes to number 2 (this is most of you) 70% of women in the world are neutral or yellow undertone.
If you answered yes to number 3 than you are a pink or red undertone. If you are two colors white or red than this is you. This also could be called pink or cool undertone.
Now for some of you, you might have seen the color option I told you, and your immediate response would be to argue back that NO! I have always been______ or I can tan really easily but also burn. Or for some reason you don't like thinking of yourself as yellow or pink, etc. Build a bridge and get over it. LOL Take a deep breath and remember it is ok this is just a tool to help you find a match that will look natural and flawless on your skin.
I wish makeup brands would decide on one way to mark all foundation and concealers so we new exactly what we are getting, but one of the things I have found is they are SALES people so sometimes they learn what sells the most and they will tweak wording knowing that more people prefer ordering a certain color or undertone than sometimes they will label a color a certain undertone when it actually isn't. Yes, I know that is super ANNOYING, but we need to educate ourselves so hopefully they will start being more consistent so we don't get confused.
When you are an olive undertone you need to look for warm, olive in the color name. When you are yellow or neutral undertone you will look for those names in the color name. And if you are pink or red undertone they usually call it cool or pink. Always remember your undertone is your undertone whether you get darker or lighter, BUT sometimes if you are warm in the summer you can get a way with a neutral shade in the winter or vice versa but usually you should stay in the same undertone when getting any new shade. It will help make your choices easier if you stay within the correct undertone.
Have I heard back in the day people saying check your wrist and see if your veins are blue, green, purple, etc that can tell what your undertone is. Maybe that is true with some people but it isn't always true because the shade of your skin on the underside of your wrist is one of the areas that gets the least amount of sun. So it might not show it as well as you think. Also the amount of skin or opacity to see through your skin to your veins can be more obvious or less obvious for different reasons. So in general that is not the best way to check it is a way to see, but this is a more sure way to check.
